Hanalei Beach Tips

Hanalei Bay with its iconic perspective of Bali Hai is one of the most amazing Kauai beaches.

This sweeping two-mile crescent-shaped bay facing our rentals in Hanalei has caught the imagination of both locals and visitors as the ideal swimming place, a favorite surfing place, and an incredible playground in the ocean. It was also a famous place in Hollywood movie location.

Black Pot, Hanalei Pavilion and Wai’oli are the three Kauai beach parks within the bay.

Hanalei is the biggest bay on Kauai's Garden Island, between two big rivers – the east Hanalei River and the west Wai'oli River. The Hanalei River, the biggest of the two rivers, also serves as a famous paddling, kayaking and fishing venue. In general, the summer season offers flat water for swimming, sailing, and paddling. The winter season brings bigger swells for surf enthusiasts. There are several lifeguard stations around the bay for ocean security, and it is always a smart idea to check the current conditions of the day with the local lifeguard on duty.

Hanalei Beach Tips
Swim along the coast between the pier for a wonderful exercise. The best for surfing is on the bay's east side. During the summer, beginners should attempt the center of the bay when the surf is lower and more gentle. White sandy beach is ideal for a stroll at Hanalei Beach.

There are always life guards in Hanalei Beach Park Pavilion. The park is located in the center of  Hanalei Bay . Waves are low there and it is good place for surf beginners and children.

Waioli Beach Park, also known as Pine Trees, has surfers and body boarders are plenty. It is a sandy bottom break. A shady part of Hanalei Bay, Pine Trees has a large grass lawn and two volleyball courts for fun beach action.

Middles is just to the West of Waioli Beach Park. Just past the Waioli River mouth and out in the middle of the bay is Middles surf break.  The beach here tends to be quiet with few people.
