The climate of Kauai is tropical, with circumstances usually wet and stable throughout the year, although weather phenomena and rare storms have caused extreme weather.

The annual precipitation at the reduced altitudes ranges from an average of about 50 inches on the windward (northwestern) coast to less than 20 inches on the island's (southeastern) leeward side.
